From :
Secretary of State for the Colonies.
To
Governor, HONG KONG (No.668)
Dated: 12th June, 1948.
Rec'd: 14th June, 1948.
Your telegram 211 Saving Mrs. G.G.N. Tinson.
Person named has been in receipt of Ministry of
Pensions Award of 35 shillings a week in respect of the
death of her husband. (My telegram 302 saving of 1947
refers).
2. As a result of Hong Kong War Memorial Fu ́d Award,
Ministry are terminating their awards in accordance
with principles set out in para.3 of my telegram 552
saving of 1947, and recovery will have to be effected
for the period in respect of which two awards have
running concurrently.
3.
4.
Understand from China Association that person
named is in poor health (? as a result) of financial worry.
Termination of Ministry's award will cause further distress.
Having regard to the exceptional circumstances in
which TINSON met his death, I should be grateful if
careful consideration could be given to the question of
whether some increase in the Memorial Fund Award could be
made, and if the award could also be made retrospectively
from the date of death.
5.
Grateful for early reply by telegraph.
